An upstairs room can work, but the access route decides.
The room may be right for the party and still be difficult to reach with a bar. A mobile bar can go upstairs only when the selected bar and equipment can be moved safely through the full access route. Tell us about the stairs or lift before booking, rather than discovering a tight landing when the team arrives.
The finished bar frontage is not the only measurement that matters. Door openings, corners, lift interiors and landings can each be the narrowest part of the journey. The working space upstairs also needs to hold the team, equipment and drinks supplies without blocking guests or an exit.
Send the whole route, not just a photograph of the room
- The floor, number of flights and whether a goods lift is available for the agreed setup and collection times.
- Clear door widths, stair width, tight turns and landing measurements.
- Lift door and interior measurements, plus the building's stated load limit if a lift will be used.
- Photographs from the unloading point through to the final bar position.
- Any building rules about deliveries, floor protection or when equipment can be moved.
A practical example
A room with plenty of space is not automatically suitable if the route includes a narrow door followed immediately by a tight turn. Equally, a lift may have enough floor space but an opening too narrow for a particular item. We need to check the selected bar against the smallest part of that route, not assume that an upstairs room is either always possible or always impossible.
If the chosen bar will not fit
Discuss a different bar configuration, a ground-floor service point or service from a suitable existing bar. Which option works depends on the event and the access information; do not change the plan on the assumption that equipment can simply be carried around an obstruction.
